Comment
The village of La Roche-Vineuse, previously known as Saint-Sorlin, was renamed in 1790 during the French Revolution to distance itself from references to royalty and feudalism. This vineyard has long been renowned for producing quality Chardonnays. More broadly, the quality of wines from the Mâconnais region has improved while remaining reasonably priced.
Tasting notes
The most well-known estate in the La Roche-Vineuse area is Domaine Merlin, which produces Chardonnays that are excellent both for early drinking and ageing. This cuvée offers a balanced profile, typical of fine Chardonnays from the region.
Food pairing
To accompany this Chardonnay, I recommend a risotto with ceps. The creamy texture of this dish and the aromas of the ceps pair very well with the wine
